AAPlasma Works with Drexel University to Destroy “Forever Chemicals” with Plasma

AAPlasma is proud to have teamed up with Christopher Sales and the Nyheim Plasma Institute team on their project to combat Per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are a diverse set of chemicals found in everything from firefighting foam to rain jackets. These chemicals have recently emerged as a great concern due to their potential human and ecosystem health risks.

In this project, AAPlasma will be assisting Drexel University with the overarching goal of determining the feasibility of applying reverse vortex gliding arc plasmatron (GAP) and dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) non-thermal (“cold”) plasma technologies for the treatment of PFAS-impacted liquids and solids, respectively, in investigation-derived wastes.

This project is critical as we try to find ways to combat the emerging problem of PFAS and mitigate the damage that they are causing. AAPlasma is proud to play a part in this fight through this project and our projects with NOAA and the EPA.
